TOPIC – Return to Work – Accommodating Temporary and Modified Duty

Accommodating work restrictions enables sick or injured employees to ease back into the workplace and has a positive financial impact from a workers’ compensation claims perspective. This session is designed to help employers understand how to balance the impact of accommodating work restrictions while minimizing exposure for disability discrimination. During the session, attendees will learn how to establish a formal Return-to-Work Program, learn some Best Practices to follow, and be afforded tools to assist with development and documentation. In addition to providing some alternatives to “traditional” modified duty, we will discuss the difference between temporary and permanent accommodation, the employer’s rights in offering and enforcing modified duty, and the financial benefit of implementing an effective Return-to-Work Program.
