Jim Szymanski

Risk Management Consultant

A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) previously with York Risk Services Group for nearly 6 years, James Szymanski is a Risk Management Consultant with InterWest Insurance Services since July 2019. Mr. Szymanski manages risk control efforts of corporate clients in areas of Occupational Safety and Health across many different occupational settings. Assessing needs for regulatory programs and training, reviewing Cal-OSHA compliant regulatory programs, conducting hazard inspections and risk assessments, and providing recommendations of corrective actions are an essential part of James’ role with InterWest Insurance Services. In addition to workers’ compensation, Mr. Szymanski also provides risk control services for clients under property and casualty, and general liability lines of insurance.

Mr. Szymanski is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS), often requested to deliver ergonomic trainer trainings, conduct job task analysis, provide materials handling training, present office ergonomic training, and perform evaluations for employees utilizing office workstations. James was the ergonomic subject matter expert for the York Risk Control staff, and conducted nearly 200 ergonomic evaluations per year. Mr. Szymanski accepts the more challenging ergonomic cases due to his ability with determining causal risk factors for dysfunction, pain, and injuries that lead to costly claims. He is skilled with presenting behavioral modifications that offset these exposures. James developed the standard ergonomic evaluation process and report format for the York Risk Control Department, and conducted quality/consistency assurance reviews of staff ergonomic evaluations and their associated reports.

James is an excellent trainer who delivers a simple yet scientific approach to topics including, but not limited to, Ergonomics and Back Safety, Defensive/Safe Driver, Trailer Towing Safety, Heat Illness Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, Workplace Violence Prevention, Forklift Certification, Traffic Control and Flagger, and more. He relates well to those who are learning about work injury prevention and risk control, as well as those who have more advanced knowledge. James was a presenter on ergonomics at Safety 2019, the American Society of Safety professionals (ASSP) National Conference and Exposition.

Mr. Szymanski’s experience in occupational safety and health includes employment as a Kinesiologist for 15 years when he performed on-site job analysis, conducted functional capacity evaluations and developed physical rehabilitation programs for injured workers. James also gained experience with safety team consulting, on-site job coaching, and return to work strategies throughout this time.
