Ignacio C. Melgoza grew up in a small agricultural town in Monterey County, CA, where he learned the value of hard work while working on his father’s strawberry farms. After high school, he moved to the bay area, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management and a Minor in Business Administration from San Jose State University.
Over the next few years, Ignacio worked in the hospitality industry where he managed the safety program for one of the largest and most recognized event production companies in the United States. It was later in December of 2009 that Ignacio joined InterWest Insurance Services as a Risk Management and Loss Control Consultant. Being bilingual in Spanish has helped him deliver the message that fosters a safety culture, effectively minimizing and/or preventing business losses worthy of benchmarking.
Ignacio is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). This highly respected certification is awarded to individuals who meet academic standards, satisfy professional safety experience requirements, and have passed two rigorous examinations. The examinations cover engineering and management aspects of safety, applied sciences, legal and regulatory matters, professional affairs, and other safety-related topics. Certified Safety Professionals specialize in protecting workers, the public, property and the environment by identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards. The CSP directs safety programs at a corporate level to reduce risk and loss.
As an active Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), he has completed the course work to obtain a Certificate in Safety Management, the Executive Program in Safety Management, Global Safety Management and Risk Assessment Certificate Program. Ignacio is also a California Department of Pesticide Regulation Approved Instructor for trainers of pesticide handlers and field workers in California. He has also successfully completed the coursework for the California Agricultural Safety Certificate Program through AgSafe. Having successfully completed the OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry, Ignacio is designated as an OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer. By completing the IVES Mobile Equipment Trainer Certification Program, he is also a Certified Trainer qualified to train operators of powered mobile equipment in accordance with Federal/California State regulations and industry standards on Counterbalanced Forklift, Narrow Aisle Forklift and Powered Pallet Trucks.
With his wide range of knowledge and experience in the agriculture and hospitality industries, Ignacio is able to provide clients with effective business solutions by identifying hazardous conditions, assessing their risk and establishing risk control measures to an acceptable level at the lowest possible cost.
